Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry, founded in 1923, is a state-run full-time general vocational college and the only national demonstrative higher agricultural vocational college in Jiangsu Province. The campus covers an area of 3,563 mu and the construction area is more than 400 thousand square meters. It is situated in the national outstanding tourist city Jurong which locates at the eastern suburb of Nanjing City. The number of students is over 13,000. There are eight departments and 59 majors in this college. Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry has grown into a comprehensive higher vocational technology college with its agricultural characteristics. Lu Xin, the vice minister of Ministry of Education, has encouraged this college to “become the leader of agricultural vocational colleges in China”.

Faculty Team

There are 697 full-time teachers in Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry. 160 people have associate professor or professor titles, and the number of professors and researchers is 23. The proportion of double-position teachers has reached to 82.4%. Two expert teachers acquire special allowance of the State Council, and another one won the first national award for teaching. What’s more, there are two agricultural vocational education teaching masters, two higher education teaching masters in Jiangsu Province, and one with the title of Ten Models of Science and Technology. One person is the young academic leader of “333” project in Jiangsu Province and five candidates are from this college. Five people are the cultivation subjects of peak talents. Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry owns one national and three provincial excellent teaching groups. In 2011 this college is entitled the advanced organization of construction and management of college faculty in Jiangsu Province by Education Department.

Experiment and Practice

Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry owns the first and second training bases with the core area of 5635 mu. It is also the graduate cultivation base of Nanjing Agricultural University and Yangzhou University. After her inspection, Lu Xin, vice minister of education, instructs that it is necessary to develop these two training bases into the national agricultural vocational education research base, the practice base, and the training base for agricultural vocational college teachers.

The college has built up the agricultural skills contest base for the national vocational college skills competition. This base hosts all the competition events of the agricultural skills competition, such as the garden landscape design , new castle disease antibody determination, plant tissue culture, artistic flower arrangement, animal operation, agricultural machinery repair, seed quality testing, tea making, agricultural products detection and so on.

Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry has 177 laboratories and training centers and owns more than RMB 93.32 million’s teaching and research equipment. The school library holds 2.45million books and 596 kinds of newspapers and magazines in both Chinese and foreign languages.

Teaching and Scientific Research

Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry owns several scientific research institutions such as Jiangsu Modern Gardening Engineering Technology Center, Jiangsu Tea Research Institute, Jiangsu Grassland Research Institute, Modern Seed Industry Development Research Institute, Jiangsu Edible Fungi Research Institute, Academician Workstation and so on. The tea industry science and technology innovation team has been elected as the member of modern agricultural industry technology innovation team in Jiangsu Province. What’s more, there are 15 kinds of scientific research platforms in this college, such as Jiangsu Agricultural Germplasm Resources Database, Turfgrass Germplasm Resources Database, Jiangsu Public Technology Service Center of Tea Industry Technology Innovation, National Taihu Pig (Xiao Meishan) Gene Library, Potato Industrialization Base and so on. Since the 11^thfive-year plan has been set up, Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry has taken 72 kinds of national scientific research items such as the projects 973, 863, 948 and so on. The college has obtained seven kinds of science and technology award including the second prize of Shennong Chinese Agricultural Scientific and Technological Progress. This college holds 26 national invention patents, and owns 35 varieties of new crops with independent intellectual property rights.

The construction of 3 state-level and 7 province- level top-quality courses have been completed by now. And the college has got 11 achievements of teaching reform in both Provincial and ministerial levels.The Innovation of Higher Vocational Personnel Cultivation Mechanism and Patternwon the special prize of provincial government’s higher education teaching achievement in 2011.

Campus Environment

With this college’s garden style, the campus culture is rich and unique. The two training bases are Jiangsu Agriculture Exposition Park and Jiangsu Tea Exposition Park. In this national “AAA” scenic area, there are Farming Culture Museum, Urban Agriculture Museum, Modern Agriculture Museum, Hundred Grass Garden, Hundred Flower Garden, Hundred Bamboo Garden, Teahouse, Fishing Center and so on. The college owns a modern gymnasium which is able to host the country's top sports events, a golf course, the outdoor development area and various sports venues. The buildings in the campus of Agricultural Exposition Park for freshmen are Hui-style of white wall and black tile, which creates an elegant environment. The students' residential district has been covered by the network. All kinds of living facilities like air-conditioners are accessible.

International Exchange

Jiangsu Polytechnic College of Agriculture and Forestry attaches great importance to international academic exchange and cooperation. By now the college has sent more than 200 teachers to UK, USA, France, Germany, Holland, Japan, Singapore and other countries for study and research. More than 30 long-term foreign experts have been hired. The experts from USA, Britain, Japan, Holland and other countries have made short-term visits and given lectures. This college establishes friendly relations with many institutions from USA, UK, South Korea, Japan and other countries, and opens up a new channel through the cooperation in running schools for the school personnel training.
