Department of Biological Engineering

In March 2006, Department of Biological Engineering was set up on the base of the following three majors—biological technology and application, food processing and testing from Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, and veterinary medicine from Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary. Currently this department has 1020 students, and is one of the main departments the school focusing on their development.
In this department, there are three majors —biotechnology, food, pharmacy—including 7 professional direction, biological technology and application, biological and biochemical pharmaceutical technology, food processing technology (production and management), food processing technology(marketing and logistics management), food nutrition and detection, food biotechnology, food and drug supervision and management.
This department owns a professional and excellent teaching team with high-quality. There are 37 teachers including 27 full-time teachers, 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 6 doctors, and more than 90%’s people with master's degree. The part-time teachers are 10. Among them 6 are with senior titles, and 4 are technicians from the front-line of production. There have been 8 teachers once studying in USA, Japan, Singapore, Australia.
Department of Biological Engineering owns three training centers and one teaching workshop. The comprehensive training center of biotechnology, with a total area of 620 square meters, consists of 6 training rooms, including microbial, fermentation technology, product separation, biological chemical engineering simulation, biochemical medicines and chemical synthesis. There are two training rooms (390 square meters) product physical and chemical detection; instrument analysis in agricultural and livestock products testing training center. 6 training workshops such as the processing of fruits and vegetables, animal products processing, grain and oil leisure food processing, nutrition food processing, fermented food processing, and food engineering principle are in the agricultural and livestock products processing training center(760 square meters). In addition, in this school’s agriculture and forestry science and technology demonstration park, the bases like intelligent greenhouse of plant rapid propagation(1580 m2), artificial climate chamber(4,800m2), 120 acres’ colorful seedling production base, large freezer(700m3), dairy processing plant producing 20,000 bottles (bags) daily, are also the related professional training bases of Department of Biological Engineering.
